Snake to Horse: Shedding old habits, moving forward with intention

Although the calendar reads 2026, in the lunar cycle it is still the Year of the Snake. On February 17 2026, the Year of the Snake ends and we move into the Year of the Horse.

🐍 The Snake

The Snake is associated with shedding. In the past year you might have let go of habits that no longer support you. This might have looked like, saying no more, changing an exercise routine that was leaving you wired and physically exhausted, changing your work or study focus, asking for help rather than pushing through something alone, accepting that it is ok to put yourself first, or reevaluating relationships.

As you are aware I made business changes in 2025, I moved on from having a business focused on fertility to a business focused on women’s wellbeing across all stages of life. This is something I am pleased to have done but having the courage to change focus and restructure the business was not easy.

Shedding is rarely comfortable. It can feel like things are being stripped back before the next phase is clear. The habits you shed in the year of the Snake will shape the way you step into the lunar year of the Horse.

🐎 The Horse

The Year of the Horse carries forward-moving energy. It brings momentum, warmth, vitality and action. It might present as a readiness to make big decisions or to act on something. It is not about rushing into or rebuilding the same patterns you shed in a new form.

It is important to move forward with intention and use the energy for your own gain.  This might mean choosing one area of your life to move forward in, not all. You may want to commit to a sleep routine or new exercise program, start a creative project, build on career skills, focus on friendships, or make space for self care.  Be guided by what you learnt last year. You don’t need to do everything, just the things that feel right for you!

For me, the year of the Horse brings forward motion in the form of education, I am commencing my Masters of Women’s Health. I am studying part time so it will be a two year process, I really hope I haven’t taken on too much.

From a women’s health viewpoint the energy from the Horse will work best if we can contain it and use it intentionally. If we let it run away this energy might show up in our lives as agitation, frustration, poor sleep or burnout. If we are intentional we can use the energy to build and bring about purposeful action and change.

Take a moment to think about what you are ready to carry into this new lunar year, and what you can leave behind (there is still time). The Horse energy invites us to move in ways that enrich our lives, but only if we move with awareness and intention.
