Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a centuries old Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practice which involves inserting thin single use sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the flow of Qi (chee). In Chinese medicine theory, Qi flows freely throughout the body along pathways called meridians. When an imbalance in the body occurs Qi can become over abundant, get stuck or be deficient. Acupuncture can restore the movement of Qi in the body through the needling of specific points helping to address the signs and symptoms of imbalance.
Our acupuncturists are degree qualified and registered with both the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA) and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Our Acupuncturists are registered with the major health funds for HICAPS on the spot rebates if you have the appropriate coverage.

From a Biomedical perspective acupuncture is thought to have a physiological effect on the body. It can stimulate the central nervous system to release endorphins, neurotransmitters and hormones. It can reduce inflammation, improve blood circulation and can regulate the immune system by activating immune cells.
Acupuncture is a cumulative process, benefits will build over time with each treatment. A treatment plan detailing the recommended frequency of treatments will be individualised for each client and discussed with you during your initial consultation. The acupuncture needles are kept in the body for at least 25 minutes, this is the perfect length of time for you to relax with music under infrared heat lights. You may even be lucky enough to drift off for an “acu” nap.

Reproductiv e Support
A Fertility Initial Consultation offers a comprehensive overview and discussion about your fertility. It is beneficial for those starting their fertility journey, those who have been unsuccessfully trying to conceive and are looking for advice or those who are undergoing fertility treatment including IUI, IVF or using a donor egg. It will be tailored to your specific needs. We are LGBTQIA+ and single mother friendly.
This consultation merges Traditional Chinese Medicine theory with science to provide you with an individualised Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment plan. Treatment will include acupuncture at the initial consultation and may also include Chinese Herbal Medicine (herbal medicine is at additional cost). If you do not live locally you can access this service via Telehealth with Kim (acupuncture is not included for Telehealth services).

During the consultation
• We provide education to help you understand your menstrual cycle and how to work out if and when you are ovulating. We can then use this information to help time intercourse.
• We review blood tests and any laboratory results to advise on supplements to ensure your body is functioning at an optimal level for conception and pregnancy.
• We can refer you for private pathology investigations to assess things like the vaginal microbiome.
• We offer lifestyle advice including removing endocrine disrupting toxins from your lifestyle to ensure your eggs and sperm are of the best quality.
• We discuss diet and principles of Chinese Dietary therapy.
ChiNese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal medicine is a modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Individualised herbal formulas can be prescribed to help balance the body and are used for a wide range of conditions. Our prescriptions are based on your specific Chinese Medicine diagnosis and tweaked regularly as your body changes and responds to the formula.
Our St Leonards clinic has a herbal dispensary stocked with granulated herbs which are mixed into warm water to drink. Dural clients can have their herbal formulas posted to them from St Leonards. Granulated herbs often taste like dirty water so they may not be the right fit if you are sensitive to taste. We can order formulas in pill and honey pearl form if that is more to your liking. Herbal formulas work best when taken so we will work to find the best option for you.
-
The provision of a herbal formula is an additional cost on top of the treatment session cost.
Cupping
Cupping is another modality of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Cupping is often referred to as a “reverse massage”, as with the use of heat a glass cup is suctioned onto the body drawing the skin upwards. The cup can remain static or it can be slowly glided over a specific area. The cups may leave red marks or red and purple circles on the body where applied.
Cupping promotes blood circulation to the area and relaxes muscle tension, from a TCM theory perspective it moves stagnant qi promoting balance. Cupping is often used for musculoskeletal tension and pain and respiratory issues.
Cupping can be incorporated into an acupuncture session (we suggest you book a 60 min appointment for this so you can benefit from both cupping and acupuncture) or a remedial massage session.
-
We do not recommend cupping if you have a special event coming up which may require clothing that reveals the purple cup marks, unless of course you want to be the centre of attention!
Moxibustion
Moxibustion or Moxa, is a modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that involves burning the dried herb mugwort close to the skin to warm and move qi. In TCM theory moxa is used to stimulate the circulation of qi and blood to an area. This can help to relieve pain.
Moxa may be incorporated into your acupuncture session, we often use it in clinic to address period pain, to bring blood flow and warmth to the pelvis and uterus around ovulation and to support turning breech babies. We use smokeless moxa in the clinic, this may be applied via a moxa box on the skin, via a moxa cone or with a moxa stick.
-
You will feel the heat from the moxa penetrate the body, the skin will be warm to touch but you will not be burnt.
Remedial Massage
Remedial Massage is so named because it aims to remediate or fix a muscle problem like pain, tension or injury. It uses techniques including deep tissue massage, stretching or trigger point therapy. It can be used to treat anxiety, stress, headaches, neck, shoulder and back pain.
You will be asked to identify any areas of pain or tension and your treatment will be tailored to your individual needs. You are always encouraged to provide feedback during your massage regarding the level of pressure.
Our massage therapist has a Diploma of Remedial Massage and is registered with the major health funds for HICAPS on the spot rebates if you have the appropriate coverage. We offer a combined acupuncture and remedial massage service for 60 or 90 minutes so you can benefit from both modalities in one session. Please note if you chose this service we can only process private health insurance rebates for either acupuncture or massage, not both.
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy Massage is safe for mothers to be at any stage of your pregnancy. Pregnancy massage is beneficial for relaxation and reducing anxiety, it can help to improve sleep patterns and is also a great tool to address pregnancy related discomfort in the hip, lower back, neck, leg and pelvic joints and to ease muscular pain. It is a wonderful way to connect with your baby.
Our pregnancy massages are undertaken in a side lying position with you and your baby supported by pregnancy pillows. It is recommended that you book your pregnancy massage following an appointment with your prenatal care provider to ensure that you have their approval for the massage.
Our massage therapist has a Diploma of Remedial Massage and a Certificate of Pregnancy Massage from Pregnancy Massage Australia.

Generally acupuncture is quite gentle. Most of what you will feel is the practitioner’s hands gently touching your skin, the needle insertion is mostly painless, though there may be a momentary sting. Once the needle is in place you may feel warmth, tingling or a dull ache, these are normal responses and are the result of the Qi being activated at the point. Acupuncture uses single use needles.
-
We will start the appointment discussing what is concerning you. You will be asked questions about how you are feeling, we will ask to see your tongue and feel your pulse in order to formulate your Chinese Medicine diagnosis. You will then receive acupuncture with the needles left insitu for 20-30 mins, during this time you can relax under the infared heat lamps. Please wear loose clothing to your appointment so that we can easily access your arms to the elbows and legs to just above the knees. If any clothing needs to be removed you will be covered with towels to maintain your modesty and comfort.
